Two weeks today I will be waking up in a John O’Groats campsite; I’ll head over to the Seaview Hotel to register myself for the walk (necessary in order to get a JOGLE certificate) and then hopefully I’ll be able to track down this signpost for the obligatory “start of walk” selfie. And then finally – putting one foot in front of the other, with compass set to south – I’ll take my first step into the unknown. I honestly don’t have a clue what I’m doing, but I am comforted by the amount of retired people that appear to have conquered this route before me. And no doubt I will keep bumping into many others – runners, walkers, cyclist – along the way doing exactly the same thing, and all with a story to share. Only time will tell I suppose, but either way I know this is going to be the adventure of a lifetime.
